Colin Smith (b.1953 | British) has work in the permanent collections of many museums and important private collections around the world. His painting exhibits a wide variety of surface textures and colors, often consisting of several layers of paint with subtle changes in hue and

tone. The final work is realized gradually as Smith works on pieces over long periods of time. The works stimulate a similar effect in the viewer—the eye is pulled inward, and the details reveal themselves slowly. The world Smith paints is largely urban, made up of invented moments in which insignificant details assume an uncanny significance.

Smith also writes about art and has been a Harkness fellow to Yale University. He is currently an Associate Editor of Turps Banana Painting Magazine. He lives and works in London and southern Spain.
